Joyce Leggett Blending Music and Visual art
Where music meets the canvas.
Joyce is an abstract realism artist from Excel, Alabama, now residing in Pensacola, Florida. Her journey has been one of grit and desire. As a child, she was unable to take art classes. Nonetheless, Joyce still won first place in an art contest when she was eight. This early success was the impetus needed to affirm her talent. Joyce obtained a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a real estate sales license, She has now come full circle; she was recently an elementary art instructor and is now a professional artist.
Her recent work reflects her love of music—Joyce is also a singer. Realistic representations of a single or multiple instruments are portrayed against blended backgrounds. The harmonies of colors using textural layers of oil or acrylic paint create a visual backdrop that enhances the beauty of each object. Deeply inspired by the soulful traditions of Blues, Jazz, and Gospel, her paintings transform musical instruments into storytellers—symbols of history, resilience, and human connection. Each piece invites viewers to feel the sound, not just see it, blending visual art with the spirit of song.
Joyce was selected as the 2024 Emerging Artist for the Great Gulf Coast Art Festival, her artwork has been featured at the Pensacola Museum of Art and other local exhibitions. She joined Quayside Art Gallery, Pensacola FL in July 2025. Joyce's work can also be found at Angels Garden, in Pensacola, Florida.
